Imago Advanced Training - Levels 3, 4, 5
Level 3
The Imago community of clinicians is one who greatly values our own continuing education and growth in Imago Therapy and theory. Consciousness takes ongoing work! To that end, the Imago International Training Institute (IITI) faculty has created a number of courses designed to deepen and expand your knowledge and expertise as an Imago Clinician. The title of Certified Imago Advanced Clinician indicates to the public that you have achieved that level of expertise.
Who can become an Imago Advanced Clinician?
All therapists who have completed the 3 Modules of the Imago Clinical Training, 6 months of supervision, and have been certified by their Clinical Instructor (Faculty) are eligible to work towards the certification of Advanced Clinician.
There currently is not an Advanced track for Imago Professional Facilitators, although it is being developed. Facilitators are welcome to participate in Imago Advanced Training courses, however, they won't count towards Advanced Certification.
What are the benefits?
In addition to the remarkable growth and healing opportunities by your participation in these courses, you can advertise yourself as an Advanced Clinician on the IRNA website and in your own marketing materials. This certification reflects your commitment to your own personal and professional evolution and growth and is bound to be attractive to prospective clients looking for especially competent therapists.
What is required?
Certified Imago therapists must complete FOUR advanced courses to achieve this level of recognition of clinical mastery.
- Attend FOUR Core Advanced Courses OR
- Attend THREE Core Advanced Courses plus ONE Special Topic Advanced Course

Level 4
Certified Imago Advanced Clinicians can further their professional development with Workshop Presenter and Clinical Supervisior/Consultant Training.
Workshop Presenter Training
This course provides Advanced Clinicians with the knowledge and skills to present the Getting the Love You Want workshop. The course is devoted to personal growth work to help the participants move beyond their blocks and limitations to become the most present and connected presenters. It will consist of sharing the theory, illustrating with personal stories, doing brilliant demonstrations, and handling the many challenges of being a first-class Imago workshop presenter. Take your Imago knowledge and experience to a whole new level and experience the joy of presenting this material to couples in a way that inspires them and makes them even more available to take this work home. Think back to your Imago Workshop participation and remember the fantastic effect the presenter had on you. Now it is your chance to give that experience back to others.
This training is about learning the structure of the workshops, lectures, demonstrations, etc., but to discover more of your magnificence as a human being and as a healer. Some Imago therapists have taken this training simply to deepen their understanding of the theory and also to grow more into themselves.
Imago Consultant Training
The Imago Consultant* embodies the Imago theory when giving feedback to professional colleagues, in self-consultation and to those seeking consultation from them. Part 1 of the training, The Art of Consultation course, covers the different aspects of consultation from a relational paradigm while bringing together Imago theory concepts such as lost parts as growth edges and how to work with our own lost parts in the process. Part two offers consultation to the trainee on their developing skills giving feedback to others both in group settings and in one-on-one consultation.
*While Consultation is used more widely in North America, other parts of the world use the word Supervision. Consultation and Supervision are essentailly the same and the terms can be used interchangably.
Level 5
The Imago Faculty began as Harville’s apprentices in the 1980’s. Maya Kollman is the last of those who trained with that special cohort, honored with the title Imago Master Trainer. Those Certified Clinical Instructors with sustained involvement with the faculty and who have consistently trained over twelve years are honored with the title of Certified Senior Clinical Instructor or Senior Faculty.
Those who are recognized as Certified Clinical Instructors or Imago Faculty have gone through extensive apprenticeships with Senior Faculty members, typically lasting several years. Before certification they are called Associate Faculty.
Faculty Associates have been brought on in cohorts over the last few years. They must wait to find trainings to assist at and for Senior Faculty to be available to mentor them. If you are interested in beginning this journey, we encourage you to reach out to your instructor.
