Rediscover Focusing as a foundational Imago practice for bringing the body’s quiet wisdom into dialogue.

This two-day experiential workshop invites therapists, facilitators, and other helping professionals to explore the quiet wisdom that is already present in dialogue. Grounded in focusing and experiential practice, it offers a practical, embodied way to deepen presence, track process, and bring greater awareness to what is happening in the room without adding anything artificial or extra.

This workshop will help participants:

  • Reconnect with the body’s quiet wisdom in dialogue.

  • Explore focusing as a way to deepen presence and attention.

  • Notice how the body shapes what is said, heard, and felt.

  • Bring a more embodied, organic awareness into work with couples and clients.

This workshop is for therapists, facilitators, and other professionals who want to deepen their capacity to work with body-based experience in relational settings. It is especially relevant for those interested in an experiential, process-oriented approach that can enrich their current practice and open the door to learning more about Imago principles and methods.

Learning Objectives

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

    • Describe the concept of the felt sense and how it differs from emotion, thought, or body sensation.

    • Contact their own experiential stream with greater ease and confidence using Focusing-based practices.

    • Track body-based signals in dialogue and recognize what they reveal about the process.

    • Distinguish between speaking about experience and speaking from the felt sense.

    • Track the somatic field of a couple or client in real time.

    • Notice when the felt sense is active, when it has gone underground, and what may be helping or blocking movement.

    • Integrate somatic awareness into their work in a way that feels organic, embodied, and practical.

    About Banu

Banu Ibaoglu Vaughn, PhD, is a psychologist and seasoned psychotherapist with over 20 years of clinical experience specializing in dialogical and experiential approaches to individual and couples work. She earned her MA in Psychology with a clinical concentration and her PhD with a focus on Consciousness and Society, both from the University of West Georgia — a continuous thread of inquiry that brought her into close collaboration with philosopher and psychologist Eugene Gendlin in the final years of his life. Her doctoral research examined moments of change within dialogue, exploring the conditions under which something genuinely new emerges in the space between two people. She serves as faculty in Imago Relationship Therapy and integrates dialogical, experiential, somatic, and creative practices into both her teaching and her clinical work across the U.S., Turkey, and parts of Europe.

Banu’s practice is rooted in existential and humanistic psychology, with over 20 years as a Focusing practitioner and teacher. Her work attends closely to the quiet, process-oriented dimensions of human experience — the implicit, the unspoken, and the felt — and how these dimensions move and change when they are genuinely met. She has brought this orientation into community contexts, including disaster response work in Turkey’s earthquake-affected regions, where she has been involved in psychosocial support and Psychological First Aid with communities navigating acute and ongoing loss. Across all of her work, whether in the clinical room, the training institute, or the field, her commitment remains the same: to co-create spaces in which people can reconnect to their own resources, and to trust that when meaning is truly heard and held, something shifts.
