About Maureen…

Maureen Smith is a Registered Clinical Social Worker and Certified Imago Relationship Therapist with 15 years of experience in mental health and substance use counselling. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and both a Bachelor and Master of Social Work, bringing a rich and varied educational foundation to her clinical work.

Her practice is rooted in a simple but profound conviction: each of us has the capacity to heal, and become more fully ourselves. This belief is not abstract for Maureen — it is the orientation she brings into every session, every relationship, and her own ongoing life as a practitioner and student. She has spent over two decades studying wisdom traditions and contemplative practice, and that depth informs the way she shows up for clients: present, curious, and genuinely invested in what is possible for each person she works with.

Maureen is drawn to people who are ready to go beyond managing symptoms and toward something more honest and alive. She believes that real healing starts within — that the most meaningful shifts happen when we are willing to look clearly at ourselves, cultivate self-awareness, and engage our lives with intention. Therapy, at its best, is a space where that kind of inquiry becomes possible.

Her approach integrates clinical training with contemplative and somatic awareness. She is trained in Imago Relationship Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Polyvagal-informed practice, and Integral Psychotherapy. This means she works with the whole person — mind, body, relational history, and the deeper questions of meaning and identity that often sit beneath the presenting concern. Whether working with individuals or couples, she brings warmth, directness, and a collaborative spirit to the therapeutic relationship.

Maureen’s path into social work began with an interest in supporting people spiritually through hospice and palliative care — a thread that speaks to something central in her practice: the willingness to be present with what is most real, most tender, and most alive in a person’s experience. That quality of presence has remained at the heart of her work across all the populations and concerns she has since worked with.

She works with adults navigating a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, panic, depression, PTSD, grief, addiction, ADHD, low self-esteem, and life transitions. She offers affirming care for LGBTQIA2S+ clients and those in non-monogamous relationships, and welcomes clients drawn to a more integral or spiritually informed approach to their healing.

Maureen’s hope for every person she works with is straightforward: to support you in becoming the best version of yourself — not through striving or self-improvement for its own sake, but through genuine self-knowledge, compassion, and the willingness to meet your life fully. She believes human beings are capable of remarkable transformation, and she considers it a privilege to accompany people on that journey.

She welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with you.
