Qualifications

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a focus in Child and Family Counseling from the State University of New York at Buffalo 2002. I have a Master’s of Social Work with a concentration in Licensed Clinical Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Counseling Background

My preferred populations are parents and couples dealing with behavioral problems with children and teenagers, parent-child conflicts and other parenting issues. I am passionate about helping parents and couples deal with communication issues, separation and marital problems, and other changes within the family.

Other focus areas for me include working with individuals suffering from anxiety, clinical depression, grief, complex grief response, adjustment disorders and the need to address core trauma. I have a trauma informed care theory of orientation and subscribe to several evidence-based therapeutic interventions.

Special Focuses

Relationship Therapy – With relationship therapy, Jacob helps couples build and sustain long-lasting relationships. As an Imago Relationship Therapist, he provides support to couples and individuals dealing with issues such as conflict, ineffective communication, affairs, blended families, empty nest syndrome, addiction, sexuality, and negative relationship patterns.

Perinatal Mental Health – As a Perinatal Mental Health Trained Therapist, Jacob helps mothers and their partners navigate the challenges of pregnancy, postpartum, and early childhood. New mothers face numerous challenges and a perinatal mental health expert can help you take control of your life and improve your mental health during this time.

Parenting Coach – Peaceful Parenting Coaches are trained to improve the parent-child relationship through teaching methods and techniques while also coaching parents to take action. As a trained parenting coach, Jacob supports parents to gain cooperation from children without yelling, threats, bribes, spanking, or punishment.

Sex Therapy – As he works towards being an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, Jacob is trained to assess, diagnose, and provide in-depth psychotherapy for individuals and couples dealing with sexual issues and concerns. Sex therapists work with concerns including but not limited to: sexual function and dysfunction, sexual pleasure, sexual variation, sexuality and disability, sexuality and chronic illness, sexual development across the lifespan, sexual abuse and assault, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
